Blind med knivbevis
You don't have to see...
Jens from Radulf group participates in E2014 in a very special way. Besides celebrating his eight birthday today, Monday the 28th of July, he is blind. This he said with a big smile on his lips.
Jens and his tent friends were awoken this morning by the sound of the birthday song - song by the rest of Radulf. Amongst them his brother Mads. Later that day his parents arrived with cake, each of which is a former scout/guide.
Radulf’s camp is build according to lines, so that Jens can find his way on his own. Outside his camp area it is only necessary for Jens to be followed by a leader or a friend to get around. Both parents and leaders agree that it does not require much for Jens to be able to go on camp.
At the camp Jens has, amongst other things been to activities in Ny Hedeby. Here wooden knives were craved, and Jens participated of course actively. As a Mini scout, he took the knife badge, and hence proved all prejudices about blind people not being able to handle a knife.
-I’m still able to hear and feel, the happy scout says.

Vikinge-erfaringer
Learnings from the vikings strike back
Hornslet-spejderne holder lejrbål. |
On Sunday the youngest scouts and guides left the camp. They were happy as well as content with the camp's activities - and we have spoken with two of them.
I have just been a scout for three weeks and hence it was absolutely fantastic to be here. I have slept in at tent for the very first time, but the most awesome day was the day, where we had to carve spoons for ourselves. I was the only one in our group, who didn’t cut oneself on the knife. Being a scout is fun, because we do so many different things.

It is my first real summer camp, but it isn’t the first time that I sleep in a tent. My two biggest experiences have been to try to dye yarn – and the evening, where we had a roasted whole sucking pig. I like being a guide, because we do a lot of things, which we never try at home.
Aktive seniorer
Grown-up activities
Søndag eftermiddag stod i seniorernes tegn.

Just kidding...
Spejderen fik sin røgvender. The boy and the smoke turner. Foto: Jesper Hansen |
It is an old joke between scouts and guides to ask one of the young ones to fetch a "smoke turner". But this guy came home with the wanted object and prooved that the technical staaff are able to deliever everything you want.

Stort rykind
Parent's day
The weekend has come to E2014. And with it the visiting days and parents. So today, scouts and guides have showed the campsite to their families.

On Wednesday BSA troop 223 had an open house evening with everything – with all included. The menu was hotdogs and the entertainment was a pure tour de force through the American history.
Amongst the entertainment was a hard core drag show – and as such troop 223 had been extended with 3 guide members as well as boys for a short while. The audience replied with enthusiastic applause and loud roars of laughter.
BSA troop 223 has a tradition of visiting Denmark and its friendship group, the YMCA-scouts from Ensted. The first visit from the US took place in 1979, and since then the two groups have joined up and participated in all “Blå Sommer-arrangements” (DDS national camps) and Jamboree Denmark 2012.
The scouts really like the Danish cuisine. Amongst them is Paul, who never visited the country before. He loves the Danish food. He finds it difficult to prepare even though the recipes are easy to follow. He is however inexperienced in a kitchen, and hence challenged at his cooking skills every day.
Morgentravlhed
Busy morning
Forplejningen fik travlt her til morgen.

The sailing vikings
Klar til kamp for farsøens folk. Ready to fight. Foto: Jesper Hansen |

When the scouts and guides from Farsø planned the camp they decided to design it as one of the viking's ships - completely with sails and shields. After the camp the ship will be reused mounted on a boogie as a part of the parade when the little town celebrates its annual festival.
